Wastewater Treatment Engineer Technology Leader

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Engineer Technology Leader to serve as a senior process engineering specialist and technical leader for municipal wastewater projects. The role supports market growth in Eastern Tennessee while contributing to major water infrastructure work worldwide.

Project Details

Projects involve conventional and advanced wastewater treatment, including primary treatment, activated sludge, nutrient removal, fixed-film systems, membrane bioreactors, sidestream treatment, filtration, disinfection, biosolids processing, water reuse, and resource recovery.

Responsibilities

• Develop process models, mass balances, design criteria, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, tradeoff studies, and master planning deliverables.
• Evaluate treatment technologies, equipment, materials, lifecycle costs, and performance data from bench, pilot, and full-scale testing.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams while managing assigned budgets, schedules, quality requirements, and engineering resources.
• Support client engagement, proposals, business development, technical presentations, and conference thought leadership.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards, quality programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
• At least 11 years of related professional experience, including substantial wastewater treatment and water quality experience.
• Advanced knowledge of municipal wastewater process design, engineering standards, regulatory considerations, and treatment evaluations.
• Experience with process simulation tools such as BioWin, GPS-X, Sumo, or Simba# is preferred.
• Advanced degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering is preferred.
• Professional Engineer license in a U.S. state, or the ability to obtain one within two years, is required.
