Wastewater Process Engineer

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Wastewater Process Engineer to serve as a technical lead for conventional wastewater treatment projects in Tualatin, Oregon. This full-time role supports complex infrastructure solutions and provides technical direction to engineering teams.

Project Details

Projects involve municipal wastewater treatment and may include primary treatment, activated sludge, biological nutrient removal, fixed-film systems, membrane bioreactors, sidestream treatment, tertiary filtration, disinfection, and emerging treatment technologies.

Responsibilities

• Prepare process models, mass-balance calculations, design criteria, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, tradeoff studies, and master planning documents.
• Evaluate treatment processes, equipment, and materials using research, testing, data analysis, and engineering calculations.
• Provide technical guidance to project teams and coordinate with multidisciplinary internal and external stakeholders.
• Support client development, proposals, presentations, conferences, and technical thought leadership.
• Mentor junior engineers, manage engineering resources, and contribute to standards, quality, and continuous-improvement programs.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program and at least 11 years of related experience.
• At least 10 years of wastewater treatment experience, including five years in water quality and treatment.
• Advanced knowledge of municipal wastewater process design, engineering principles, regulatory considerations, and applicable standards.
• Experience with BioWin, GPS-X, Sumo, and/or Simba process simulation software is preferred.
• Master’s or doctoral degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering is preferred.
• Professional engineering license in a U.S. state, or ability to obtain one within two years, is required.
