Project Engineering Manager Substation 1

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Project Engineering Manager to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering substation design services and EPC programs. This full-time role is based in Overland Park, Kansas, with hybrid or flexible work options potentially available after the first 90 days.

Project Details

The position supports complex substation and switchyard projects for U.S. investor-owned utilities, including design, procurement, construction, renewables integration, HVDC/FACTS/STATCOM, data center integration, and battery energy storage systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineers and technicians across multiple disciplines and coordinate project deliverables.
• Manage engineering budgets, schedules, quality requirements, data, calculations, and technical recommendations.
• Provide technical leadership for complex substation projects, including layout, protection and control, civil/structural design, and major equipment.
• Serve as responsible charge for projects, review lower-level engineering work, and oversee personnel administration.
• Interface with clients, resolve project concerns and changes, and support proposals, pursuits, and business development.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
• At least five years of related professional experience.
• Experience managing substation or switchyard EPC or design-services projects for U.S. investor-owned utilities is preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles, applicable standards, procurement, contract administration, proposals, and engineering estimates is preferred.
• P.E. license is highly preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Published salary ranges are $125,879-$210,220 in California and $120,406-$201,080 in Colorado.
