Mechanical Buildings Engineer HVACPlumbing Advanced Power Generation

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Mechanical Buildings Engineer to lead and support HVAC and plumbing engineering for conventional power generation facilities across the United States. The position works as an individual contributor on multidisciplinary teams delivering coordinated, code-compliant, and constructible building systems.

Project Details

Projects involve conventional power generation facilities and may use EPC, FEL/FEED, design-build, or services delivery models. The broader mechanical engineering practice supports power, gas, fuels and chemicals, water, data centers, mining, and renewable energy work.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review HVAC criteria, load calculations, ventilation, exhaust, pressurization, heating, cooling, and equipment sizing.
• Design and review plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, emergency fixtures, floor drains, and specialty drainage.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, schedules, equipment data sheets, calculations, and design reports.
• Coordinate mechanical deliverables with process, civil, structural, architectural, electrical, instrumentation and controls, fire protection, piping, and procurement disciplines.
• Support vendor reviews, RFIs, construction activities, commissioning, and startup.
• Provide technical guidance, mentor junior engineers, contribute to standards and training, and support client and business development activities.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent engineering experience.
• At least four years of related work experience, including HVAC and plumbing design.
• Active engineering registration or licensure supporting engineer-of-record requirements.
• Ability to complete applicable pre-employment background, drug-screen, and motor-vehicle checks.

Compensation and Benefits

Annual compensation is $114,930-$211,134. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability coverage, wellness programs, paid vacation and holidays, sick time, dependent sick time, company-matched 401(k), tuition and adoption reimbursement, and employee stock ownership through the 100% ESOP structure. Flexible or hybrid work options may be available after the first 90 days, and a performance-based bonus may be offered.
