Job Summary

Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. is seeking a Mechanical Buildings Engineer to support design and engineering services for U.S. Government clients. The position focuses on HVAC, plumbing, building systems, and technical coordination for new and renovated facilities.

Project Details

Assignments support federal agency and department projects, including commercial and industrial building systems, central plants, boilers, chillers, controls, and related facility infrastructure. Potential project experience includes MILCON, Civil Works, federal facilities, and classified work.

Responsibilities

• Develop HVAC and plumbing specifications, drawings, calculations, and basis-of-design documents.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with other disciplines, clients, contractors, and project leadership.
• Support energy modeling and life-cycle cost analyses using Trace 3D and BLCC.
• Produce Revit-based two-dimensional drawings, including P&IDs, control diagrams, and design notes.
• Provide construction-period support through submittal reviews and responses to requests for information.
• Prepare engineering deliverables, equipment recommendations, calculations, and technical documentation while meeting quality, budget, and schedule requirements.
• Mentor entry-level professionals and interns as experience develops.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering from an accredited program.
• At least one year of related professional experience.
• U.S. citizenship is required for assigned federal projects.
• Knowledge of building mechanical codes and accurate HVAC load calculations.
• Intermediate HVAC and plumbing design experience, including industrial, commercial, central plant, boiler, or chiller systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• EIT certification is preferred.
• Experience with federal, European, MILCON, Civil Works, building controls, building automation, or CFD modeling is preferred.
