Electrical Project Engineer Substation Design and Power Electronics (STATCOMFACTSHVDC)

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to lead technical substation design work for FACTS, STATCOM, and HVDC projects. This employee-owned opportunity is based in Overland Park with hybrid or flexible work options potentially available after 90 days.

Project Details

The role supports distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission voltage projects within a power infrastructure practice spanning substations, renewables integration, HVDC/FACTS/STATCOM, data center integration, and battery energy storage.

Responsibilities

• Lead physical and protection and controls substation design activities for complex projects.
• Apply IEEE, IEC, NEC, NESC, NERC, and ISO/RTO requirements to project work and deliverable reviews.
• Prepare engineering calculations, equipment and material recommendations, design deliverables, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, clients, owner engineers, original equipment manufacturers, and project managers.
• Manage assigned schedule, budget, quality requirements, and technical issues while reviewing work performed by junior engineers.
• Support client pursuits, mentor engineering staff, and contribute to quality and process improvement.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
• At least 5 years of related engineering experience.
• High-voltage substation design experience in physical design and/or protection and controls.
• Experience leading technical work for utility substation clients and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
• Quality assurance and quality control review experience.
• Professional Engineer license preferred.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
