Electrical Project Engineer Substation

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to support high-voltage substation engineering, project coordination, and technical leadership. The role may serve as a project lead or technical specialist on complex utility and infrastructure programs.

Project Details

Projects include substation engineering, procurement, and construction programs ranging up to 765kV, with work spanning protection and controls, physical design, renewables integration, HVDC, STATCOM, battery storage, and data center infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Develop protection and control deliverables, including relay designs, one-line and three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring, and panel arrangements.
• Produce physical substation designs covering yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control buildings, and auxiliary power systems.
• Review design packages for quality, prepare equipment specifications and bills of materials, and coordinate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal disciplines.
• Manage assigned budgets, schedules, quality requirements, and engineering deliverables while coordinating project teams.
• Mentor junior engineers, review lower-level work, and support proposals and business development.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
• At least five years of related engineering experience.
• High-voltage substation design experience in physical design and/or protection and controls.
• Experience with project leadership, utility clients, QA/QC reviews, and multidisciplinary coordination is preferred.
• Professional Engineer license preferred, along with proficiency in Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office.
