Electrical Project Engineer - Distribution

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to lead distribution engineering projects and coordinate technical delivery, project controls, quality, and client relationships. The position is based in Ann Arbor with full-time employment and relocation eligibility.

Project Details

Projects include overhead and underground electrical distribution systems ranging from 4kV to 34.5kV, supporting investor-owned utilities and technology-focused infrastructure such as substations, data centers, renewables integration, and battery storage.

Responsibilities

• Lead distribution projects from design through execution while managing scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
• Prepare engineering deliverables, perform research and complex calculations, and recommend equipment and materials.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, production groups, vendors, subcontractors, and project resources.
• Interface with clients, identify project drivers, resolve concerns, and manage approved project changes.
• Provide technical leadership, review engineering work, conduct quality reviews, and support continuous improvement.
• Participate in proposals, business development, project planning, scheduling, and resource meetings.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
• At least 5 years of related professional experience.
• Experience with overhead and underground distribution design and engineering services, preferably for U.S. investor-owned utilities.
• Advanced knowledge of NESC, NEC, engineering design principles, and applicable standards.
• Experience coordinating procurement, permitting, land acquisition, construction support, and other interdisciplinary activities.
• Strong client communication skills; a P.E. license is highly preferred.
• Ability to complete applicable background, drug-screen, and motor-vehicle checks.
