Civil Engineer - Water

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Civil Engineer to support water and wastewater infrastructure projects in Richmond. The role combines technical design, project coordination, client communication, and mentorship within an employee-owned engineering organization.

Project Details

Work includes large-scale water and wastewater infrastructure such as conveyance systems, pump stations, and lift stations, spanning design, construction support, and startup activities.

Responsibilities

• Develop studies, technical memoranda, calculations, detailed designs, specifications, and contract documents.
• Support project schedules, budgets, quality requirements, cost estimates, and contract administration.
• Coordinate with clients, subconsultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Prepare technical approaches and scopes of work for proposals and business development.
• Lead portions of complex projects and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
• Review engineering work and develop recommendations for equipment and materials.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• At least one year of related work experience.
• Understanding of water and wastewater design, including infrastructure, conveyance, and pump or lift stations.
• Professional engineering registration is preferred, or candidates should be actively pursuing PE registration.
• Ability to work in a hybrid or flexible arrangement may be available after the first 90 days, subject to management approval.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range is $82,770-$138,230 per year. Benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage, disability insurance, paid time off, holidays, sick time, a company-matched 401(k), tuition reimbursement, and employee stock ownership. A performance-based bonus may also be available.
