Civil Engineer - Water

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Civil Engineer to support large-scale water and wastewater infrastructure projects in a full-time, hybrid-capable role based in Cary, North Carolina. The position combines technical design, project coordination, client communication, and mentorship responsibilities.

Project Details

Work includes water and wastewater infrastructure, conveyance systems, pump stations, and lift stations through design, construction, and startup. Projects may involve reports, studies, detailed designs, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents.

Responsibilities

• Develop civil engineering designs and complex technical deliverables from conceptual development through completion.
• Support project schedules, budgets, quality requirements, contract administration, and subconsultant coordination.
• Prepare engineering calculations, equipment and material recommendations, technical approaches, scopes of work, and client presentations.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and external consultants.
• Lead portions of complex projects, review junior engineers' work, and provide technical guidance and mentorship.
• Contribute to business development and proposal preparation.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited program.
• At least five years of related professional experience.
• Thorough understanding of water and wastewater design, including infrastructure, conveyance, pump stations, and lift stations.
• Professional engineering registration is preferred, or candidates should be actively pursuing or interested in obtaining a PE license.
• Ability to lead portions of complex projects and apply civil engineering concepts, standards, codes, and procedures.
