Assistant Chief Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking an Assistant Chief Instrumentation & Controls Engineer for a technical leadership role supporting the Chief I&C Engineer while leading execution on power generation assignments. The position combines enterprise technical governance with project delivery leadership.

Project Details

Work centers on conventional power generation, combined-cycle and simple-cycle facilities, balance-of-plant systems, plant modernization, and related power infrastructure. The broader team also supports process-industry applications such as oil and gas, LNG, petrochemical, refining, and chemical facilities.

Responsibilities

• Advise on complex I&C engineering issues, standards, technical decisions, quality, and systemic project risks.
• Develop and maintain discipline standards, procedures, templates, execution tools, and knowledge-management resources.
• Lead I&C engineering teams through planning, design, procurement support, construction support, commissioning, and closeout.
• Prepare execution plans, staffing strategies, schedules, budgets, quality expectations, and technical work processes.
• Support pursuits and reviews while improving resource use, design reuse, quality controls, and delivery consistency.
• Mentor personnel and contribute to recruiting, workforce planning, performance feedback, career development, and succession planning.
• Advance responsible use of AI, automation, digital engineering, and reusable design content.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent engineering experience.
• At least 11 years of related experience; 15 years is preferred.
• Experience as an EPC Lead I&C Engineer on power generation projects.
• Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams and engineering subcontractors.
• Expertise with DCS, PLC, SCADA, HMI, industrial networking, cybersecurity, functional safety, automation, turbine controls, and control-system architecture.
• Active engineering registration or licensure to support Engineer of Record requirements.
• Experience with EPC, design-build, Engineer of Record, Owner’s Engineer, consulting, or services delivery models is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Annual compensation is $142,090-$261,008. Benefits may include medical, dental and vision coverage, disability insurance, wellness programs, paid time off, holidays, sick time, company-matched 401(k), tuition reimbursement, and participation in the 100% employee-owned ESOP. A performance-based bonus may also be available.
