Traveling Superintendent (Automotive)

Job Summary

Barton Malow is seeking a Traveling Superintendent to lead field execution on automotive manufacturing projects throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee. The superintendent will direct site operations and serve as the primary field leader for owners, trade partners, and project teams.

Project Details

Assignments support large-scale automotive manufacturing projects, including equipment installation and complex industrial construction work. The role is traveling rather than Southfield-based and may involve moving between regional project sites as work progresses.

Responsibilities

• Lead site safety programs, pre-task planning, toolbox talks, hazard analysis, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
• Direct daily construction sequencing, manpower, logistics, equipment use, temporary utilities, deliveries, and trade coordination.
• Manage look-ahead and short-interval schedules, monitor productivity, and address constraints, delays, changes, and cost exposure.
• Verify work quality against drawings and specifications, lead inspections, and support punch list, commissioning, turnover, and closeout activities.
• Maintain field reports, manpower records, RFIs, submittals, change documentation, and as-built records.
• Lead coordination meetings and develop project engineers, assistant superintendents, and field staff.

Required Experience

• Eight or more years of construction field experience, including leadership as an assistant superintendent or superintendent.
• Industrial or manufacturing construction experience; automotive experience is preferred.
• Ability and willingness to travel and relocate among projects in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee.
• Working knowledge of OSHA 1926, strong safety leadership, and the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and equipment installation documents.
• Strong scheduling, communication, construction software, and Microsoft Office skills.
• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
• OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR are preferred.
