Harrisonburg Superintendent Commercial Construction

Job Summary

Barton Malow is hiring a Construction Superintendent to lead field operations for commercial and institutional projects in Harrisonburg and across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic. The Superintendent will oversee safe, high-quality execution while coordinating project teams, owners, designers, and trade partners.

Project Details

Projects support higher education, healthcare, and sports and entertainment clients, including university facilities, healthcare environments, and athletic or entertainment venues. Work may involve campus, healthcare, and occupied facilities where careful logistics planning is essential.

Responsibilities

• Direct on-site construction from mobilization through closeout.
• Lead daily planning, site walks, progress reviews, and field coordination.
• Manage subcontractor sequencing, productivity, performance, and schedule adherence.
• Maintain a safe, collaborative jobsite and enforce quality and contract requirements.
• Coordinate with project management on budgets, forecasts, cost control, changes, bid packages, and procurement.
• Develop logistics plans that reduce disruption to active campuses, healthcare facilities, and occupied spaces.
• Resolve field issues and maintain relationships with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, and trade partners.

Required Experience

• At least seven years of construction field leadership experience on commercial projects.
• Experience in higher education, healthcare, sports and entertainment, commercial, or institutional construction.
• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• Knowledge of scheduling, sequencing, site logistics, safety compliance, and quality management.
• Ability to lead diverse teams, manage stakeholders and conflict, solve problems, and make effective decisions under pressure.
