Solar Designer

Job Summary

PCL Solar Constructors USA Inc. is seeking a Solar Designer in Katy, Texas, to support renewable energy projects from early concept development through construction and delivery. The role combines design coordination, estimating support, field documentation, quality, safety, and project administration.

Project Details

Work focuses on utility-scale solar development, including photovoltaic layouts, DC electrical design, substations, feasibility studies, tendering, detailed design, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Review solar, photovoltaic, DC electrical, and substation designs while coordinating information among engineering teams and consultants.
• Support estimates, quantity takeoffs, drawings, specifications, schedules, and design development.
• Assist with contract and subcontract review, risk planning, commissioning, and external design consultant coordination.
• Maintain field records and help track quality, production, labor, materials, costs, quantities, and time.
• Support inspections, safety training, hazard correction, and implementation of quality and safety plans.
• Assist with subtrade coordination, requests for information, shop drawings, changes, billing, workforce planning, and stakeholder relationships.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in engineering, construction management, architecture, a trade, or a related discipline.
• Zero to one year of progressive drafter or designer experience is preferred.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to learn construction principles, specifications, procedures, and new technology.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and stakeholder communication skills.
