HSE Student

Job Summary

Civil West, part of the PCL family of companies, is seeking an HSE Student in Long Beach to gain practical construction-site experience while supporting health, safety, and environmental initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Help administer project health, safety, and environmental plans, regulatory requirements, and safe-work practices.
• Support HSE training, hazard identification, inspections, corrective-action follow-up, and emergency response planning.
• Provide project teams with safety information, trends, and action plans.
• Review trade-partner documentation and monitor contractor compliance, equipment inspections, and tool-inspection records.
• Notify stakeholders about incidents and assist with investigations.
• Build effective working relationships with project teams, trade partners, and craft workers.

Required Experience

• Current enrollment in a degree program.
• Progress toward a bachelor's degree or diploma in occupational health and safety is preferred.
• Progress toward a safety designation.
• Ability to learn occupational health and safety legislation, environmental requirements, construction processes, and HSE procedures.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and adaptability with new technology.
