Civil Superintendent - Grading

Job Summary

McCarthy Building Companies is seeking a Civil Superintendent to lead field operations, crew coordination, safety, quality, and schedule execution for grading and civil construction work in Southern California.

Project Details

The position may be based in Newport Beach, Los Angeles, or San Diego and focuses on site and mass grading operations within McCarthy’s commercial construction portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Direct multiple crews, subcontractors, and field personnel across active work areas.
• Implement site safety, task hazard analysis, quality, and equal employment programs.
• Manage logistics, short-term schedules, resources, equipment, materials, and deliveries.
• Interpret drawings and specifications and coordinate with owners, inspectors, trades, and project management.
• Track daily activities, costs, budgets, as-built information, and construction progress.
• Support project scheduling, estimating, preconstruction, shop drawing review, submittals, and scope development.

Required Experience

• At least seven years of applicable field leadership experience in site or mass grading.
• Experience directing and coordinating multiple crews and subcontractors.
• Working knowledge of civil construction principles and practices.
• Experience with HCSS/Heavy Jobs, Procore, or Bluebeam is a plus.
• A bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

California salary range is $117,000-$161,000 depending on location. The package may also include a bonus and other benefits, with final compensation based on location, experience, qualifications, training, and market considerations.
