Telecommunications Superintendent

Job Summary

Kiewit is hiring a Telecommunications Superintendent to lead field execution for telecom construction on a large-scale, mission-critical data center project in Abilene, Texas. The superintendent will direct crews and trade partners while coordinating with project management, engineering, safety, and commissioning teams.

Project Details

The role focuses on data center telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic and copper structured cabling, backbone systems, pathways, racks, cabinets, equipment installation, testing, and turnover. The position is project-based and may involve relocation to other U.S. project sites or office rotations in Denver, Colorado, or Lenexa, Kansas.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily telecommunications construction and coordinate sequencing with electrical, mechanical, controls, and general construction teams.
• Lead huddles, look-ahead planning, manpower loading, safety meetings, and job hazard analyses.
• Monitor productivity, materials, quantities, progress, costs, and schedule impacts.
• Direct foremen, technicians, craft personnel, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Inspect installations for quality, testing, labeling, documentation, and compliance with project and owner requirements.
• Coordinate with owners, inspectors, commissioning teams, and other stakeholders through testing and turnover.

Required Experience

• At least five years supervising telecommunications or low-voltage construction, preferably in data center or mission-critical environments.
• Working knowledge of fiber optic and structured cabling systems, pathways, racks, cabinets, and testing requirements.
• Ability to lead crews, coordinate multiple trades, and manage safety, quality, and schedule expectations.
• Familiarity with BICSI, TIA/EIA, and NEC standards is preferred.
• Hyperscale data center, self-perform, integrated electrical and controls, and multi-trade partner experience is preferred.
• Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, varying shifts, and changing project locations.
