Substation Engineer Lead Kiewit Power Delivery Engineering

Job Summary

Kiewit Power Delivery is hiring a Lead Substation Engineer for its Lone Tree, Colorado office. This senior-level role provides technical leadership and hands-on engineering for high-voltage substation projects delivered through traditional design and EPC environments.

Project Details

The position supports greenfield and brownfield substation, transmission, and distribution work ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. Responsibilities span physical and protection and control design from concept development through detailed engineering, construction support, testing, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation layouts, bus configurations, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and related design documents.
• Oversee one-line and three-line diagrams, equipment specifications, bills of material, studies, and cable, conduit, and raceway plans.
• Coordinate civil, structural, transmission, protection, and control disciplines to produce integrated, constructible designs.
• Review engineering deliverables and support planning, scheduling, staffing, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Identify technical and project risks, develop mitigation approaches, and mentor junior engineers and designers.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
• 8–10 years of high-voltage substation design experience in a utility, EPC, or consulting environment.
• Experience leading engineering teams or acting as a technical lead.
• Working knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and utility-specific requirements.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, CDEGS, or comparable substation design software.
• Strong communication, coordination, attendance, safety, and deadline-management skills; overtime and weekend work may be required.

Compensation and Benefits
