Substation Engineer Lead - Kiewit Power Delivery Engineering

Job Summary

Kiewit Power Delivery Engineering is seeking a senior Lead Substation Engineer in Raleigh to direct technical design activities for high-voltage substation, transmission, and distribution projects nationwide.

Project Details

The role supports 12 kV to 500 kV greenfield and brownfield substation work in traditional design and EPC environments, serving utility, renewable energy, industrial, and oil and gas markets.

Responsibilities

• Lead physical and protection and control design from concept development through detailed engineering and construction support.
• Direct layouts, bus configurations, grounding, lightning protection, control buildings, one-line and three-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and cable and raceway plans.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, transmission, and protection disciplines to produce integrated, constructible designs.
• Review deliverables, support planning and resource allocation, assist procurement through commissioning, and address project risks.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers while providing technical leadership to the substation team.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
• Eight to ten years of high-voltage substation design experience in a utility, EPC, or consulting setting.
• Experience leading engineering teams or serving as a technical lead.
• Familiarity with IEEE, NESC, and utility-specific requirements.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, CDEGS, or comparable substation design tools.
• Strong communication, coordination, safety, attendance, and deadline-management skills.
