Substation Electrical Engineer Kiewit Power Delivery

Job Summary

Kiewit Power Delivery is seeking a mid-level Substation Electrical Engineer to develop safe, reliable designs for utility-scale high-voltage substations from 12 kV through 500 kV. The position may be based in Portland, Oregon, or Salt Lake City, Utah, and supports both new and existing facilities.

Project Details

The work supports transmission and distribution infrastructure, including greenfield and brownfield substation projects delivered in utility and EPC environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical diagrams, equipment layouts, bus arrangements, grounding systems, cable routes, conduit plans, and cable schedules.
• Specify major substation equipment such as transformers, breakers, switches, buswork, insulators, surge arresters, and auxiliary systems.
• Complete grounding, ampacity, short-circuit, and insulation-coordination analyses.
• Review supplier documentation and coordinate designs with civil, structural, and transmission-line engineering teams.
• Provide technical support through procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and energization.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Five to seven years of substation engineering experience on utility or EPC projects.
• Knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and utility substation standards.
• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or comparable 3D design platforms.
• Ability to produce and interpret detailed electrical drawings and engineering documentation.
• Reliable attendance, professional communication, safe work practices, and availability for overtime or weekend work when needed.
