Job Summary

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is seeking a senior structural engineer to support nuclear, power, industrial, and infrastructure projects from its offices in Lenexa, Houston, Knoxville, or Itasca. Remote or hybrid work may be available with approval.

Project Details

The role supports nuclear solutions work including renewable energy, conventional power, Department of Energy programs, and industrial facilities. Responsibilities span front-end engineering, detailed design, procurement support, and construction support.

Responsibilities

• Perform independent structural engineering work and lead intermediate and early-career engineers when assigned.
• Analyze and design buildings, foundations, equipment platforms, pipe racks, and concrete and steel structures.
• Develop design criteria, calculations, technical specifications, quantities, estimates, and engineering documentation.
• Coordinate with designers and other disciplines, review drawings, and support budget, schedule, quality assurance, and change-management requirements.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to structural department tools and workflow improvements.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering; a master’s degree is an asset.
• Professional Engineer registration in at least one state.
• 12–15 years of structural design experience in nuclear, conventional power, or industrial building sectors, including ideally 3–5 years in nuclear.
• Expertise with finite element analysis and tools such as ANSYS APDL, SAP2000, GT STRUDL, STAAD Pro, or LS-Dyna.
• Knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, ASCE 4, ASCE 43, ACI 318, ACI 349, AISC 360, and AISC N690 design codes.
• Experience with seismic design and analysis, including equivalent static and response spectrum methods.
• Familiarity with US NRC regulations and DOE requirements; ASME BPVC Section III experience is an asset.
• Strong communication, organization, teamwork, safety, attendance, and deadline-management skills.

Compensation and Benefits

Base compensation is $164,000–$172,000 per year. Full-time benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage, wellness and employee assistance programs, life and disability insurance, retirement plans with matching, and paid time off. Overtime and weekend work may be required.
