Safety Manager - Transportation / Infrastructure

Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking a senior-level Safety Manager to lead project safety operations for transportation, heavy civil, and water resource construction. The position is based on active projects and supports employees, craft workers, subcontractors, and consultants.

Project Details

Projects are located in Southern California and Texas and involve transportation, heavy civil, and water infrastructure work. Relocation assistance may be available.

Responsibilities

• Create and administer project-specific safety plans aligned with company standards, regulations, and industry practices.
• Inspect jobsites, identify hazards, assess risk, and monitor corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training to employees and subcontractors and promote accountability across project teams.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, including root-cause analysis and required reporting.
• Track safety performance through audits, key metrics, and reports to project and senior leadership.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

Required Experience

• At least 5 years of construction safety management experience, preferably in heavy civil, transportation, or water resource projects.
• Education in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Current OSHA 30-hour construction safety training completed within the past 5 years.
• CHST certification required; CSP, EM385, First Aid/CPR, EMT, OSHA instructor, and MSHA instructor credentials are preferred.
• At least 24 hours of formal safety training annually over the past 5 years, with competent-person training in at least four specified safety disciplines.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements, communication skills, leadership ability, and experience managing increasingly complex project safety programs.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary is $125,000-$155,000 per year. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement matching, and paid time off.
