Office/Field Engineer - Underground Construction

Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking an Office/Field Engineer to support underground construction operations and estimating activities. This mid-level role combines field engineering, work planning, quantity tracking, and coordination with crews and craft supervision.

Project Details

The Underground District delivers transportation, water and wastewater, environmental, power, mining, and telecommunications projects using tunneling and trenchless construction methods. Work may involve TBM excavation, sequential excavation, drill and blast, shafts, concrete, tunnel rehabilitation, and related underground systems.

Responsibilities

• Interpret design documents and specifications for field teams.
• Calculate installed quantities, progress, and material needs.
• Support work plans, work packages, surveys, site layout, and as-built records.
• Prepare job hazard analyses and participate in safety meetings, reviews, and training.
• Coordinate material deliveries, work groups, schedules, and field operations.
• Assist with labor timekeeping and develop solutions for tunneling and construction challenges.
• Contribute to estimating through quantity takeoffs, time studies, estimate reviews, and bid closeout.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in civil, mining, mechanical, geotechnical, construction, or another related engineering field.
• At least two years of construction or engineering experience, preferably in underground, HDD, tunneling, earthwork, or related civil work.
• Leadership, planning, organization, communication, and time-management skills.
• Valid driver's license and the ability to access active construction sites in varied environments.
• Commitment to safety, ethics, quality, initiative, and dependable teamwork.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, rotating schedules, or shifts when required.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary is $90,000-$110,000, with eligibility for medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement matching, and paid time off. Relocation support is available for qualified candidates.
