Mechanical Commissioning Lead - Kiewit Power Engineering

Job Summary

Kiewit Power Engineering is seeking a senior Mechanical Commissioning Lead to direct mechanical startup activities, supervise craft and contractors, and support safe, high-quality commissioning of power facilities.

Project Details

The role supports EPC power projects across North America, including gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables, new technologies, and water/wastewater facilities. The position is based in Lenexa, Kansas, with project assignments and relocation determined by business needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily mechanical commissioning activities and promote compliance with safety procedures.
• Supervise construction and contractor craft during startup and coordinate system commissioning.
• Conduct equipment and pump checkouts, line flushing, mechanical pre-operational checks, run-in vibration analysis, and rotating-equipment alignment verification.
• Oversee oil flushing, chemical cleaning, steam blows, hydrotesting activities, and technical field support.
• Develop procedures, schedules, issue action plans, and commissioning records while escalating concerns to the Mechanical Lead.
• Attend assigned meetings and follow startup administration requirements.

Required Experience

• Associate degree in mechanical technology or equivalent job-related experience.
• Ten years of mechanical commissioning experience in the power industry.
• Experience flushing and cleaning mechanical piping systems and working with industrial process equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical principles, controls, equipment testing, operation, repair, and maintenance.
• Ability to supervise and train personnel in mechanical testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operations.
• Ability to create and execute daily work schedules that support commissioning milestones.
• Reliable attendance, effective communication, safe work practices, and willingness to work overtime and weekends when needed.
