Kiewit Building Design Manager

Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking a Building Design Manager to lead multidisciplinary building design teams from early development through construction on industrial and other complex facility projects. The role coordinates architectural, engineering, BIM, procurement, construction, and project management stakeholders while managing scope, cost, schedule, quality, and contract requirements.

Project Details

Kiewit Architectural & Engineering supports design-build, progressive design-build, and EPC delivery for industrial, energy, infrastructure, mission-critical, healthcare, commercial, federal, nuclear, aviation, education, and other specialized facilities. The position may be based in Lone Tree, Colorado; Lenexa, Kansas; Dallas, Texas; or Houston, Texas. Relocation is available to Lenexa or Lone Tree, while Dallas and Houston candidates must be local.

Responsibilities

• Lead architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, structural resources, and BIM designers supporting building projects.
• Manage productivity, quality, milestones, labor budgets, commercial performance, and design-to-commissioning schedules.
• Coordinate project initiation, estimating, staffing, design reviews, technical integration, procurement, construction, and client interfaces.
• Monitor team and project metrics, forecast manpower needs, and implement recovery plans when performance declines.
• Lead coordination and engineering meetings, maintain document-control measures, and manage design-build and EPC contract requirements.
• Develop stakeholder relationships and communicate project status, contractual obligations, budgets, and schedules.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, or architectural engineering; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 10 years of relevant design or project management experience, including substantial building design and team leadership experience.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary industrial building design and managing project scope, schedule, budget, engineering, construction, and vendors.
• Design-build and EPC building execution experience is required.
• Industrial-sector experience is required; relevant markets may include power, water and wastewater, data centers, nuclear, pharmaceutical, healthcare, aviation, transportation, distribution, and regulated or clean-room facilities.
• PE or RA licensure is preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, attendance, safety, and deadline-management skills.

Compensation and Benefits
