Field Engineer - Heavy Civil - Southwest District

Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking an entry-level Field Engineer for its Southwest District to support heavy civil construction, field operations, estimating, and project administration. The position is based in Phoenix, with assignments determined by business needs.

Project Details

The Southwest District delivers transportation, water, rail, and other heavy civil work nationwide, including mass grading, drainage, concrete pavement, utilities, surveying, and self-performed construction activities.

Responsibilities

• Interpret plans and specifications, calculate quantities, support surveying, and prepare work plans and job hazard analyses.
• Coordinate crews, material deliveries, subcontractor activities, schedules, and field operations.
• Assist with safety meetings, inspections, daily reports, RFIs, project records, cost tracking, change orders, and as-built information.
• Prepare takeoffs, engineering calculations, technical documents, purchase orders, subcontracts, and customer or agency submittals.
• Support estimating through plan reviews, production and cost analysis, historical data review, and bid quantity takeoffs.

Required Experience

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related discipline such as mechanical, mining, or geotechnical engineering.
• Strong communication, organization, planning, time management, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to work on active construction sites in varied climates, including overtime, weekends, rotating schedules, and shift work.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel and relocate nationwide.
• Previous internship experience is preferred; demonstrated commitment to safety, ethics, integrity, and quality is expected.
