Drill & Shoot Superintendent - Heavy Civil Construction

Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking a Drill & Shoot Superintendent to lead drilling, blasting, and rock excavation operations on a heavy civil transportation project in the Big Bend area of Texas.

Project Details

The South Central District delivers heavy civil infrastructure, transportation, and water resource work, including mass grading, drainage, paving, utilities, and major earthwork. This role may support projects in varying locations and conditions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Blaster in Charge and direct drilling, blasting, and excavation activities.
• Develop blast plans, sequencing, production schedules, and excavation strategies.
• Supervise crews, foremen, operators, subcontractors, equipment, and explosives inventory.
• Coordinate with project management, engineering, surveying, and client teams.
• Track production, equipment utilization, quantities, costs, blast performance, vibration, and excavation quality.
• Lead safety meetings, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
• Maintain blast reports, permits, production records, and project documentation.
• Mentor field personnel and support a strong safety and accountability culture.

Required Experience

• At least 6 years of heavy civil construction experience with substantial drill and blast work.
• At least 2 years in a superintendent, general superintendent, or comparable leadership position.
• Knowledge of drilling, blasting, explosives, rock excavation, and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Experience on highway, infrastructure, mining, quarry, underground, tunnel, dam, or large earthwork projects.
• Ability to interpret plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and blast designs.
• Proficiency with production tracking, scheduling, and reporting tools.
• Must be able to work overtime and weekends when required and maintain reliable attendance.
